Ellen Foster was a girl who someone could argue had nothing. Her mom commited suicide, her dad was killed, and her grandma died in e sleep. Everywhere she went, she bought death with he, so it seemed. Then when she goes to live with her aunt she is thrown out on Christmas day. Nothng would go her way until she went to the foster home. That is when her luck changed. She now lived in a house where she was loved and no one would hurt her.
In my mind, I think it all worked out for Ellen in the end. She had a rough childhood but that didn't stop her from becoming happy. The story line became easier to follow and was actually a good story. I'm glad they ended it on a high note or else it would have been a really depressing book. This book shows that no matter what may happen, as long as you work hard and keep your head up, there will be better days and life itself will keep getting better.

Ellen Foster Second Response
Well, Ellen has moved out of her fathers house for good! The only problem now is finding a suitable home for her and someone who is willing to take care of her. She was able to take refuge with her art teacher for a while, but the courts seem to think that Ellen need to be with family. So instead of sending her back to her fathers, the courts decide to send her to her grandmothers house. This lifestyle is much different than she is used to, but she gets used to it and is able to live happy away from her father.
What I don't get is how someone can move so much just to avoid one person. I know people who have moved around a lot, but that was due to work or financial problems. This little girl will do anything and go to anyone just to try and stay away from her father. I'd like to see what happens when she gets old enough to leave and go out on her own. Will she even look back or will she try and fix things with her dad? The book is good and well written, but the story line is a little hard to follow sometimes.
